Retcon - (in a film, television series, or other fictional work) a piece of new information that imposes a different interpretation on previously described events, typically used to facilitate a dramatic plot shift or account for an inconsistency.
I don't mind it when it makes sense and doesn't insult the audience's intelligence. Some have been pretty good. If writers didn't retcon, then we would not have gotten the following characters:
Good Retcons:
Carly is Bobbie's daughter
Martin & Cyrus as Laura's brothers
Nikolas
Stefan
Dante
Nelle
Drew (Billy Miller's version not Cam's)
FYI, for those who didn't know. We have Genie to thank for Nikolas and Stefan. She went to the writers suggested the genius idea of what happened to Laura while she was gone for two years? What if she had a baby?
Mediocre Retcons:
Nina is Willow's mother
Alexis is Sam's mother
Rebecca (Emily's twin sister)
Awful Retcons:
Ethan is Luke's son
Holly and Robert are Sasha's parents
Skye is De-Qued
Pau Hornsby is a serial killer
Peter is Alex and Cesar's love child
Luke & Laura disco night. He raped her yet the couple referred to it as the first time they made love. TPTB called it a seduction. No. It was rape. I am glad they revisited it decades later and called it what it was.
Gio is BLQ and Dante's long lost son. Not to mention the fact that Dante literally introduced them at the pool and BLQ even shook Cody's hand. FF a year later and they grew up together and attended summer camp.
Too Early to Tell:
Cass is Nathan's twin
