Scouts. It was a really big deal, and he did great during the ceremony.

But man.

I was on the decorating committee.

Scratch that, I WAS the decorating committee.

I wasn't part of the group of texts going out, only Mr. Kris was (he was assistant cubmaster). I had agreed to do the decorating a month or so ago, and bought a bunch of supplies (which reminds me, I need to get reimbursed for them...).

So on Saturday, the ceremony started at 3. We got to the hall (which is part of a Catholic church/school) around 12:10. Someone else from the troop was there to let us in, and so was the cubmaster.

We walk in with supplies, they both say "great, see you at 2:30!" and left.

It was JUST US there. Mr. Kris had to go to another building to get the bridge they walk over (which was in four big pieces he had to put together), would have been nice if the cubmaster had stuck around to help with that! The room was set up for a cafeteria (which is what it is during the school week) and we had to put away all the long tables and pull out the round tables for the families. Luckily we only had 5 scouts bridging over so we didn't need 13 like they had last year.

Oh and remember how I said it was a Catholic church? Yeah Knights of Columbus had their Lenten fish fry there the night before and the place was DISGUSTING. I had to sweep the entire place and mop in several areas because the floor was gross. So that took forever. I tried texting another mom to see if she could come help but she was at her other job and wasn't able to, she was the only one I knew.

Luckily the den leader showed up (with ice cream for ice cream sundaes) and was able to help out, so we were able to get everything done and honestly it looked really nice. I had bought a machine to blow up balloons so I could put them on every table - I had thought I would blow them up at home on Friday but then discovered how big balloons really are when inflated and that wouldn't work, lol. Luckily the machine I bought was super fast.

Everything went off really well, it was pretty emotional, and we had a good time. The only drawback was there was supposed to be cake. I was PROMISED CAKE. Cake is like my favorite thing in the WORLD. Den leader decided to just do ice cream sundaes. 😐

After we left, we stopped at the local grocery store to pick up a couple things for dinner because we were both so exhausted we were NOT cooking anything. And as usual I cheaped out on what I really wanted - a single layer cake that was exactly what should have been served but I didn't want to pay $13 for it - and instead got a king cake because I hadn't had one in a while. $8 and that thing was the driest grossest pastry I've ever eaten. Next morning I had to run get something at our local grocery store and bought a piece of cake they had, it had a gross filling and lots of sprinkles and was $4. I should have just spent the $13 and gotten what I really wanted, because now it's been almost a week and I still want a good piece of cake with thick sugary frosting!!!
