Since learning to do a school day remotely during covid, snow days became unnecessary since the kids and teachers can work from home. They seem to have more planned holidays and break days off though than I remember having. Whether it’s a snow day or a remote day, it’s always a big problem for many parents who can’t stay home from work themselves and suddenly need to find childcare. For that reason, pre-covid NYC tried not to call too many snow days unless it really might not be safe for kids and teachers to travel. Having a remote day solves the federal funding issue but not the fairly sudden need for many parents to scramble to find childcare.
