Why do some people consider “Black Friday” to be racist? Isn’t it a day

that is supposed to be good for consumers (sales and deals) and good for retailers (the beginning of the holiday season when they move out of the red/debt and into the black/profit? How is the intent of the term “Black Friday” racist? Maybe “Best Friday” is just a marketing gimmick.

I just checked my schedule for next week and lucky me; I'm off Wednesday, and the store is closed on Thursday (and of course it's not a paid holiday for all of us except the store manager), then I'm working Black* Friday 9:00 AM-4:00 PM. I don't think I actually worked last year on BF but I also wasn't a keyholder last year, so it didn't really matter which of the regular associates worked.

You may already have heard this but your parent company (private equity firm Sycamore Partners) just bought Walgreens and one of their first cost-cutting measures was eliminating paid holidays for hourly workers even those who work full time. They also laid off a bunch of salaried corporate employees and closed a bunch of underperforming stores.
