event <g>. I only took a small bag of items to leave; in the bag was three books, an old tennis racket that's still in pretty good shape (I've not touched it since the 80s) and a hair straightener that was still in the sealed box. I don't even remember GETTING a hair straightener (probably got it at last year's leave and take). I swore I wasn't going to come home with anything...OK, not much...but instead, I brought home the following:

- 11 magazines (Midwest Living, Better Homes and Gardens, a couple issues of Bon Appetit and one issue of American Rifleman for Dad)

- 2 books (The Great Gatsby and an anthology of best American short stories)

- 9 Christmas cards (because I still send cards, darn it!)

- 2 Christmas ornaments

- a ceramic bowl shaped like a snowman (Christmas gift for Sis this year)

- a pretty ceramic bowl for me

- a long, narrow ceramic dish that I have no idea what to do with <g>

- a red mason jar with a handle and lid

- 5 bags of beads (I'm splitting them between my good church friend and myself)

- a dozen hard plastic plates with a tropical theme (gift for gcf who loves all things flamingo, palm trees, etc.)

- a large photo album still wrapped in plastic

- a small, decorative photo frame

- a brand new bag of black pens (for the shoeboxes I make up every Christmas for Operation Christmas Child)

- a pouch of brand new makeup applicators (never used)

- a small statue of a sunfish and some coral (doesn't match my decor but it's so pretty!)

- a DVD of the 50th anniversary edition of Rudolph: the Red-Nosed Reindeer (I checked to make sure the DVD was inside but I forgot to turn the DVD over...it's pretty scratched and gunked up, so it might not play)

And then, if all that loot wasn't enough, I hit a local church rummage sale where they were having their "half off" day. For $4.50, I got two decorative pillows for Dad's room (his are NASTY, and the covers are literally falling apart), another bag of beads and a beautiful ceramic dish shaped like a Christmas tree, with a bunch of triangle-shaped smaller dishes fitted inside.

Not a bad haul today! The only problem is I have to go to work in a bit and I'm going to be fretting about what else was brought to the leave and take event after I left <g>.
