I will say this: Another time when our elevator was out of service for a few days, a man who lives on the 4th floor and uses a wheelchair came home and couldn’t get from the lobby up to his apartment, two of my neighbors carried him up. That same time, my legs were fine but I was struggling to carry a full suitcase down 6 floors because I was headed to the airport to head to Mexico. My neighbor on 5 heard me, came out and carried it down to the lobby for me.
I’ve lived in this 6- story, rent-stabilized pre-war (built in the 1920s) building for 20+years. Most of the time, the elevator works but there have been a few times when it broke down and needed service. It was also out during the 2003 blackout. And during heatwaves, sometimes the power company cuts the power down to try to avoid it going out completely for anyone. During those lowered power times, the elevator is turned off just in case we lose power because it would be awful for anyone to get stuck in the elevator with no power during a heat wave.
So, no actual “plan” but I’m sure I’d find my way out in an emergency. Thankfully, we should be getting the elevator back tomorrow or Wednesday. BTW, lots of people live in buildings that don’t have elevators.
