I’m pretty sure her leg was broken. I hope she didn’t lose her baby. It was a quick, intense experience with a stranger (a bunch of strangers really). I didn’t know her name.

I don’t know what the truth is about the Kitty Genovese incident. I do know that, in my experience, the stereotype that New Yorkers just coldly ignore people in distress and step over bodies has never been true.
