They decided to go with someone whose "skills more closely align with the job" (aka probably more computer experience) and I'm actually OK with that. It would've been nice to have a sit down job close to home and work in a more relaxed environment, but the job itself didn't sound all that interesting and I'm still a little unsure why the company even exists as most manufacturers have their own salespeople and don't require some kind of intermediary. I also thought it was a wee red flag when I was told the owner of the company also owned the building and some of the buildings around it and I would have to occasionally collect rent and answer calls about problems in those other buildings.

Work is about to get...interesting. We hired a new sales associate today, though she won't be available to work until mid-September. Which will be right about the time M (84--now 85?--year old firecracker) will be taking 6 weeks off to get cochlear implants. Another associate might have jury duty. B (Big Grandma Energy) is now part time due to a company policy change and isn't interested in working all that many hours...plus she leaves next week for a 2 and 1/2 week visit with her new grandson down in New Orleans. As there's not much to keep B in NE Ohio, and considering both her kids, and now her grandbaby, are down in NOLA, we're all privately betting that B returns and tells Store Manager she's quitting and moving with her husband to NOLA.

Oh, and apparently SM has been telling some people--but not me--that she's thinking of quitting as well. I'm not sure I believe her--the store is her life--but I feel her reasons for wanting to quit are valid, though slightly self-inflicted. Hope she doesn't think *I* would take over the store...I'm still trying to get the heck out of there myself.
