I didn't meet my bio-dad (John) until I was 18 -- he divorced my mother when I was 2, my mom remarried when I was three and my stepfather adopted me when I was 6.

Apparently he made arrangements with my mom that he wouldn't contact my brother (1 year older) or me until we graduated from high school. When my brother graduated in 1972, he received a letter, a picture and a check for $250. I got the same a year later.

My brother wasn't interested, but I appreciated that he had kept track of when we graduated and made an effort to reconnect. I met with him when he came to town to visit his family. In the 1980's when I moved back to Salt Lake City from D.C. to go back and broke my leg (needing surgery) just before my senior year, once I was mobile, I moved in with him and one of my half brothers while I temped before going back to school. I ended up getting a job in the corporate office of Intel and stayed for 7 years (though I moved into an apartment).

During my time there my sister (half sister biologically) came to visit and I had my half brother pick her up from the airport while I was temping, and they fell in love and got married, staying in California.

Eventually John married wife no. 5 (fidelity wasn't his strong suit) and moved back to Utah. Then my sister/brother and their two kids moved back to Utah, so eventually I moved back to.

Long story to get to the point that while John never had the "name" dad, I always called him John, I referred to him as my dad when talking about him (I'm going to lunch with my dad). Once I had an actual relationship with him he regained the title of dad if not the name.

Drew can call Monica his mom because there was a time she referred to him as her son and he referred to her as his mom.

Of course Monica would be disgusted with Drew lying to have Michael charged with murder when Drew more interested in hurting Michael than whoa actually tried to kill him.
