Previews for the week of 05-Jan-2009

by Carol Banks Weber

  • In the Todd and Marty Show, we last saw this dysfunctional, star-crossed couple on the roof of the Palace Hotel, as Marty practically ordered Todd to take a leap off to make her happy.
  • With nothing left to live for, Todd does as he’s told, and leaps to his death.
  • Ah, but wait, this is a soap opera after all. Todd doesn’t leap to his death, but leaps into the Llantano River. Had it just been him and Marty up there, that would’ve been the end of that. However, John just happens to have followed a lead from Marty’s journal (as pointed out to him by Cole), straight to the hotel room where Marty and Todd briefly stayed, and then toward where Todd dropped.
  • John dives into the river to fetch a half-drowned Todd.
  • Also at this same time, Blair and Tea are screaming at each other close by, and watch the whole thing unfold in seemingly slow-mo.
  • Blair comes in for the assist, as both she and John resuscitate Todd from the brink of blackness.
  • Instead of relief, or even an ounce of compassion, a uber-livid Marty tears into John for keeping Todd from becoming a corpse she could piss on.
  • Marty winds up at Angel Square, at her wit’s end.
  • Along rides Wes (Brody’s pal) on his hog. He gives her a lift and they enjoy an impromptu, wild date.
  • Marty finds in Wes a sort of kindred spirit, and he’s cute too. They reminisce about their night, and how screwed up things have gotten for them.
  • John locates Marty hanging out with Wes, takes one look and finds this unacceptable. John implores Marty to take off with him as her escort instead of this Wes.
  • Marty tells John what he can do with himself, and stays with Wes.
  • Blair disparages Todd in the aftermath of his leap off the roof, and then shows him what he stands to lose (with shots of his kids) if he insists on torching his life.
  • Tea goes to Viki for support for Todd, since, in the lady lawyer’s opinion, the guy’s not right in the head anymore.
  • Viki reels at news of Todd trying to leap to his death.
  • Todd lets on to Tea just how far he was willing to go to have his way, up to and including faking Starr’s baby’s death, and keeping it for himself.
  • Tea counsels Todd about the importance of Janet as witness to the proverbial prosecution, as it could mean curtains for him legally.
  • Nora assigns Antonio and Talia to locate the whereabouts of Janet.
  • Cole can’t deal—with school and thoughts of his mom unraveling. Asher appears like a serpent in Eden to tantalize him with a doobie.
  • Starr’s having a hard time of it too at school.
  • For Starr, there’s the oasis of an understanding new science teacher named Mr. J. Mr. J happens to be the son of the recently deceased ob-gyn Joplin, who committed suicide over the presumed death of Starr’s infant.
  • Renee opens the door of her home to … she’d never have imagined.
  • Nora and Clint experience David, the Buddhist monk. He seems for real.
  • All Nora and Clint can think about is putting David off long enough to ensure he never has a chance at inheriting Asa’s estate.
  • Alex Olanov teases Dorian about David’s new, enriched state.
  • Dorian’s ears perk up when Beaver Calhoun is spotted and overheard talking about finding David fast.
  • Dorian follows up what she overhears with more details from Beaver, wheels spinning.
  • Despite the spirit of Mel dissuading Dorian from going back down that greedy route, she can’t help herself. She means to concoct a devious scheme to ensnare David for herself.
  • Clint charges Jared with the task of making David a non-issue.
  • Jared tries to throw money David’s way so the guy will go away.
  • While David feels a twinge of covet over the big money, he cannot allow that earthly urge to take him over again, and turns Jared down.
  • Nora appeals to Clint and Viki to let their daughter Jessica (as Tess) speak with the authorities for evidence that could prove damaging to Todd’s case.
  • Ultimately, Viki denied Nora’s appeal.
  • Jessica humbly seeks Brody’s pardon for Tess’s nasty behavior to him.
  • Jess and Brody consent to stay bosom buddies.
  • Bess surfaces to give Viki what-for about her terrible neglect as a mom to Jessica.
  • Clint suffers anguish as a dad because Jess’s condition suffers a setback and cuts deep.
  • Natalie passes on the good word of her engagement to Jared, to Gigi and Rex. And shows off her engagement bling.
  • Rex beholds Gigi being maternal with baby Chloe, his heart melting and his soul regretting that he blew that with his own son Shane.
  • Sarah finks on Cristian and Vanessa (pretending to be man and wife) to the Feds.
  • The Feds move in before Sarah knows it, to put the hammer down on Cris and Vanessa.
  • An agent informs Cris and Vanessa of the trouble they’re in.
  • Layla conveys her disappointment and chagrin while lecturing to Sarah about her devious, Tina-like ways.
  • Cris learns it was Sarah who finked on him and Vanessa.
  • Cris and Sarah feud it up bitterly.
  • Sarah packs up to go away forever.
  • Tea catechizes Lola on just what may have happened to her late mom.
  • Vanessa calls for Tea to scram and stop harassing Lola.
  • Next week: Cole does the wrong thing and tokes up… Bo and Nora give Matthew the third degree about illegal substances procured in the midst of his private stuff… Viki comes through for Todd after all… Todd opens up all the way to Starr… Marty moves away from Cole, despite the fact that he’s her son… and Marty inches ever closer to Wes, rediscovering her wild child… Starr stumbles upon the disheartening matter involving Cole and his return to substance abuse… Jessica suddenly calls to mind the day she brought her baby into this world. It comes out slowly, in bits and pieces… Tess requires Viki to assist in bringing this recollection forward… Tess ascertains Bess’s actions post-delivery that day… Brody experiences a personal unearthing… Brody goes to Wes for more enlightenment… Dorian consults with psychic Madam Delphina in order to hunt David down… Spotting David right where she wants him, Dorian puts on the moves to make him hers… David becomes putty in Dorian’s expert hands… Jared converts to Buddhism so he can speak David’s language (and pursue Clint’s objective)… Everybody’s searching for Janet… Tea messes with Lola’s mind… Cristian succumbs to Vanessa’s charms.
