The funny thing is when I typed in "Chico's free insulated tote bag 2026", the Google results showed the bag but if you clicked on the link, it sent you to the Chico's page where you got an "item not found" message. Because yes, we are OUT of those tote bags 😁
You raise a very good question: why was getting this free tote bag so important to J? She told me in a few weeks, she's going to the hospital for a surgical procedure so I don't think she needs either a ton of new clothes (though the one outfit she bought was all soft, casual clothing that's easy to put on, so that was smart) or an insulated beverage tote. Maybe she wanted it as a gift for someone? Or maybe she isn't so much mad about not getting the bag itself as she is not getting something she feels entitled to?
Dad teases me all the time about my mild obsession with getting free stuff. It mostly manifests in September when our community has its wonderful "leave and take" event, which takes place in the open field behind our recycle "park", under a huge tent. On the Saturday of the event, people can drop stuff off and take things they want; on Sunday, it's "take" only. I love taking things I'm not using (the first year it was a Himalayan salt lamp and some outdoor string lights still in the box), and I always swear I'm not going to take anything...but I always wind up bringing home a bag of stuff as well. Most of the time, I nab books and magazines (which I then either put in a little free library box <books> or recycle <magazines>) or craft supplies for myself or my friends who craft.
But still, I would never berate a poor store clerk for no longer having the free item the store was giving out.
