I am not sure this book could live up to Pinborough's review, but I am intrigued...just saw on The Story Graph that there's an animal death though? :-/
There is, but a) it's not a pet and b) it's not described in too much detail. Still, I can understand if that would be a deterrent for you. I'm DEFINITELY more sensitive these days to animal deaths in books I'm reading. There *might* be one in the book I'm currently reading...the dog was definitely in peril but I haven't found out yet if he makes it or not (he'd BETTER!).
I'm still deeply, deeply upset by a horrific act of animal cruelty in a book I read last year (A Baby's Bones). Not sure what it says about me that the BABY'S death was less troubling to me than the animal death (at least both were in the distant past and we didn't get a lengthy description of either death).
