My "half gallon" of ice cream yesterday is actually 1.5 quarts instead of 2 quarts. But I'm pretty sure folks would notice if their dozen eggs was anything less than 12 eggs.

* Admittedly there's a few times I've gotten home and discovered one or more of my dozen eggs broke at some point, despite me carefully checking when I made my selection. In those cases, my "dozen" eggs turn out to be 11 eggs, or maybe 10 eggs.
