disappeared, so I decided to get dinner from Guido's in town. First I figured out some other errands to run because even when gas was cheap, I always tried to go at least three places every time I was out (that rule doesn't apply to my work commute, though I often try to stop at places literally along the way when I need something). So I picked up some milk for Dad; he drinks a glass at dinner and was out (I only occasionally have milk, always over a bowl of cereal). I dropped off one of only two bills I still mail at the post office. I hit up the ATM because Guido's, now being run by the third generation of Guido's family (and the fourth generation sometimes helps with dishes or bussing tables), still only takes cash. I returned a bunch of library books, including one I read in about 3 hours today (very good but the ending made me a little mad). And THEN I went to Guido's. About a decade ago, they moved from a tiny hole in the wall in a small strip mall to a brand new, built to their specifications, restaurant on the lot right next to the strip mall*. Shortly after, they added a funeral home/party center next to the restaurant. I knew they'd be busy tonight--lots of families make Friday night pizza night--but I failed to take into account two things: first, the Cavs are playing tonight and some folks like to have pizza on game night. And second, it's apparently prom night for the local high school. I'm undecided if couples were attending some kind of pre-prom meal at the party center or if prom was AT the party center. I only knew about prom because a young man was directing traffic in the parking lot, sending promgoers over to the party center side of the parking lot, and he actually asked me if I was there tonight for prom. I'm pretending he mistook me for a senior attending prom and not a chaperone <g>. The place was PACKED. Anyways, it's been a while since I've eaten at Guido's, and I couldn't decide between a small cheese pizza or their fabulous cavatelli with meat sauce (both homemade), so I got both + a small salad. Prices have gone up of course, which...ouch. BUT I ate 1/3 of the pizza and froze the rest for two later meals. I ate maybe 1/4 of the salad (they have THE BEST homemade Italian dressing I've ever had). And their idea of "one" cavatelli with meat sauce is...I can't even explain how big the container it comes in is but I had a small bowl of that as well and I'll still be eating it for at least another three nights. AND I got complimentary homemade rolls. So expensive, yes, but not when you consider I'm going to be eating tonight's meal for six (non-consecutive, thankfully) days 😋
