the (then local, now nationally syndicated) Christian contemporary music radio station and people were calling in with amusing stories. One caller said she was an office manager for a business and she'd once gotten a call from a truck driver who said he was running late because he was in..."TOO-lee-doo". The woman was puzzled and thought maybe she'd misheard the guy so she asked him to repeat the name. Same thing: TOO-lee-doo. Finally she asked him to spell the name of the town, so he did: "T-o-l-e-d-o".
(for those of you unfamiliar with the city in NW Ohio, it's pronounced "toe-LEE-doh")
Ever since hearing that on the radio, I now pronounce Toledo "TOO-lee-doo".
