Because I've picked up a couple shifts lately, and because work has been a bit...challenging the last couple weeks, and because I had a rare Saturday off (and also have Sunday and Monday off...next week's schedule is weird), I decided to treat myself to some lunch today and try somewhere new. Lunch was at a TINY fast-casual Mexican restaurant called Señor Masa; it's so small, there's only six seats inside (most of their customers get their meal to go). With "masa" in the name, I was expecting tamales...nope <g>. Most of the menu is the standard tacos, burritos, bowls, etc. but they do have a few specialties. Next time I'm getting the posada and corn fritters but today I opted for the three tacos meal. Since you can mix and match the tacos, I got a fish taco, a birria taco and a smashburger taco. They were all sooooo incredibly delicious! The smashburger taco tasted like a (very) elevated Big Mac. The birria taco was my very first birria taco and the beef was so tender and the consommé was so flavorful. But I think the fish taco was actually my favorite. Normally I prefer the fish in my fish taco to be grilled and not fried, but the fried fish in this taco was so light and crispy and non-greasy, and the tomatoes and avocado and lime crema kept it all light and tasty. Best of all...the place is known for its "authentic" Mexican hot chocolate, so I got a cup of that for my "dessert". Thick, creamy, chocolatey and dusted with cinnamon, you could tell this was something made in a saucepan and not a powder combined with some water. A perfect treat for yet another frigid day!
