Yesterday when I got to work, there was what looked like a doormat of solid ice in front of the back door. Technically, it's the building owner's responsibility to keep up the building but he seems to be falling down a bit on the job this winter. The strip behind the store where we park is rarely plowed, even though the parking lot is kept surprisingly clear (or at least relatively clear, on bad days) by the city. The owner had to be told it's his responsibility to see that the area behind the store is plowed, and it's up to him to give us rock salt (or preferably spread it himself, or have a lackey do it) for the days we have ice. Anyways, we're not sure what caused the ice skating rink right in front of the back door, and there was no salt to throw down. So after I punched in, and before I removed my snow boots, I went out and did my best to chip away as much of the ice as possible, which wasn't much. I also tossed down a couple cups of hot water, which helped somewhat but of course just left behind more water to freeze. I then tried to rake as much of the old salt scattered around over the new ice. Finally, I made up a sign saying "watch your step--icy!" and taped it to the back door. I worked with B yesterday (before she went to her "new favorite store" for the second half of the work day) and we talked about the ice but beyond that, we didn't do anything. At the end of the day, if SM isn't working, she wants us to take a picture of the sheet with the final sales numbers and send it to her (another control issue thing; there's no reason she couldn't just wait until she came in the next day to look at the numbers). When I sent her the day's (abysmal once again, thanks in part to the weather), I told her to be careful when she came in this morning as there was a LOT of ice by the back door.

This afternoon, when I went in to work M's shift (her knee is still bothering her), I wasn't even IN the door before SM was berating me about the ice situation. She told me *I* (not B, who technically is a bit above me in the power rankings) should've called the owner yesterday morning and DEMANDED he come down and deal with the ice. And then if I couldn't reach him, I should've called HER and she would've bought some salt and come in and put it down on the ice (there's that martyr complex again: she would've come in on her one day off of the week instead of just asking me or B to go buy some rock salt and save the receipt so she could send it to the building owner). I told her what I DID do to (try to) fix the problem, which I thought was above my pay grade, but she was still kind of p!ssy about the whole thing.

And yes, I'm still looking for a new job. Always looking (and praying something will open up).
