and middle school and saw no cars in the parking lot. It was sunny but cold Tuesday morning, and the kids had just had MLK Day off Monday so I thought "why are they off?" My newest (and currently favorite <g>) co-worker, "H", still has a kid in high school, so I asked her if kids still had actual snow days or if they did remote learning since COVID showed them how to do so (I did stress that I knew she could only speak for the private Catholic school her son attends). She told me that a) kids get "snow days" if the wind chill goes below a certain point, so it didn't matter that it's not snowing, as long as it's super cold and b) at her son's school, the first "snow day" is usually a true snow day, with no school whatsoever but after that, teachers often give out assignments to be completed that day. So no class, technically, but still extra homework.

It made me wonder if other schools do the same.
