It may sound like a "political" thing, but it's more than that. I did post it on the political board.

Here's what I sent:

The US Postal Service (USPS) is planning to postmark items based on when the item gets to a centralized processing site instead of when it goes into the custody of the post office (in the mailboxes, mail chutes, or the hands of a postal worker). That can have a serious negative impact on time-sensitive items like mailed ballots, tax returns, and other items that use the neutral time stamp of the USPS.

Please change this back to the way it's been done in the past. The USPS having an item means the clock stops.

Thank you.

The postmark change could be a real problem. The post office stamping of custody date and time is neutral and is what it is. My central processing location is about three hours away from where I live and the mail only leaves for that facility once a day, usually after 3pm when the mail that's deposited in the outside collection box is emptied. It might not be postmarked/processed until the next day (some time after midnight).
