amazed that it took me this long to learn of it. I’ve lived in Bay Ridge for over 20 years and before that I lived in Park Slope for 20 years. You’d think this custom would have been on my radar before now. My dad was Catholic but not Italian and my mom was Protestant and she was in charge of setting up the nativity. She always put the baby in the crib and manger for all of December. Your way makes a lot of sense.
