I was talking to the person at the wild bird store about it, because I wanted a larger feeder. The first one I got is one of the tube types and it's only really good for the smaller birds. She told me that mourning doves are kind of dippy and will roost in the open tray feeders if you put that kind out, LOL. I got a covered one with suet holders on both ends and the cardinal went to that one. Hopefully the mourning dove will come back. I had one of those nest on my balcony several years ago, for a few years in a row. She laid her eggs in one of my hanging plants and I was always very careful to water it and not startle her. Once we had an awful thunderstorm come through and it knocked the plant off the balcony and some of the eggs broke :( She never came back after that year.
