one that your daughters are likely to carry on. It’s good for all of us to keep in mind that so many kids are not as lucky as we were. So many people focus way too much on what they’re getting, not what they’re giving.

I did my shopping for my Angel Tree kids online. In fact, today when I picked a second boy from the Angel Tree at my Y, I ordered Legos for him before I left the Y to head home. A very productive way to spend my time while my hair was drying and I was waiting for a ride.

neighbor's church. We've been doing it since my girls were young. They are 32 & 35 now and still look forward to doing it every year. Unfortunately now that they are both not living with us and both working different jobs, it's harder to coordinate a shopping date. We may end up doing separate trips, one with each of them. We're excited because this year we got a family of four girls (well, one in utero, but due to be born in December) and we love shopping for girly clothing....also they all asked for books! My girls LOVE reading and we always have so much fun picking out their old favorites. The one thing that made me so sad though was that the two school aged kids asked for school supplies. 😢 Of course we're going to get them (thanks SZ poster and teacher Glory for helping me figure out grade appropriate supplies), but dammit that shouldn't be on a kid's wish list. Reminds me of last year when we got two teen boys and some of the stuff they asked for were gift cards for Uber so they could get to work and gift cards for Home Depot/Lowe's so they could buy supplies for their vocational classes.

I agree that it’s sad for kids to ask for school supplies, Uber rides to work and supplies for vocational classes for Christmas. But those kids are prioritizing getting an education and working so they’re on the road to getting somewhere in life. I hope they get some fun gifts too.
