I made day trips into the city back in the 90s/early aughts but when i started working regularly in the city back in 2019 and had a landing place/desk, you bet your booty i wore "good" walking shoes to and from and had a couple of flats stashed at the office.

ahhh well, now i'm paying the price, I guess.
