the wedding. I've been to some that were short, sweet and relatively interesting. I've also been to some where I was wishing I was anywhere else. My college roommate got married in a traditional Byzantine (Catholic) wedding...the ceremony was almost two hours long. Worse, there were so many people in attendance, it was standing room only for those of us who arrived "late" (which was about 10 minutes before the ceremony). I was just grateful Byzantine wedding ceremonies often do not include bridesmaids and groomsmen...I would've certainly been in the bridal party (and possibly the maid of honor, though the bride had a couple sisters she might've also considered for the role) and likely would've been standing for even longer.
Destination weddings are awesome, but admit they're also selfish.
1000% in agreement with this one! It's especially appalling when the destination requires a passport and is held in some luxury resort and was preceded by destination bachelor/bachelorette parties.
I'm also still really against the new trend of
- Entrance Fees (Seriously no one even wants to go, I'm not paying at the door
- Cash Bars (invite less people, pay for their drinks)
I don't care about cash bars, though that's likely because I don't drink alcohol. And I kinda hate the people who refuse to go to "dry" weddings because getting sloshed on someone else's dime isn't the point of attending a wedding. But again, ITA with the disdain for entrance fees. Charge me to attend your wedding (specifically your wedding and not, say, a fee for entrance to your venue)? I'm out.
