There's a reason for the saying "A fed gator is a dead gator." Alligators naturally fear people and would rather stay away from them, but they have extraordinarily long memories - if people feed them, they permanently lose their fear of humans and start seeing humans as a food source. Also, most captive gators who are not cared for by professionals have severe metabolic bone disease. Almost all captive gators have SOME MBD, but it's really bad in cases where it's a private pet instead of part of a formal sanctuary.
Please, people. Get a dog or a cat. Or if you really want a reptile, something like a bearded dragon, a tortoise, or a ball python. Leave alligators alone, greatly increasing the chance they will do the same to us. If you want to see gators, go to reputable sanctuaries or zoos. Or just hang out at most Florida ponds, lol, but at a respectable distance.
