Today, our seminarian (well, he grew up in another parish in our diocese but spent a year with us as part of seminarian studies before returning to the seminary) was ordained into the transitional diaconate. He'll be a deacon for about a year then will be ordained a priest.
It was a great ceremony, a well-attended mass, light refreshments, parking was a mess. Great time. I got to see some people I hadn't seen in a while, but they didn't do a reception line outside the cathedral door. We'll see the newly minted deacon tomorrow at an ice cream social hosted by our Knights of Columbus following the 5pm Life Teen Mass...well, after we put the new deacon to work. He's going to bless the new youth wing at the parish ("new" as in originally the teen wing, then a daycare for a private organization, then back to teens and younger children). It will be the St. Carlo Acutis Wing.
Carlo Acutis is being canonized tomorrow. He was supposed to be canonized in April, but Pope Francis passed away and everything got shifted. My parish had sent a bunch of teens and some adults, including our new deacon, to the planned canonization and they ended up going to a papal funeral mass. I'm not sure if they were there when Pope Leo was named.
