was one of my good church friend's favorite movies (I'm surprised because she gravitates towards animated Disney flicks and gooey sweet Hallmark movies). When she found out I'd never seen it, she insisted I borrow her DVD copy.
I thought the movie was good, maybe even very good, but I didn't think it was the cinematic masterpiece I was expecting. Obviously the acting was excellent, as was the cinematography, and the music is so incredibly iconic that I get twitchy just hearing those opening notes of the theme song. I thought the conflict at the beginning--shut down the beaches to keep everyone safe or keep them open so the economy doesn't tank?--was interesting. The psychological aspects of the film were also very well done; gcf had warned me that the story of the fate of the men on the USS Indianapolis was true but it still chilled me. However, I thought the hunt went on a bit too long, and I would've liked just a bit more at the end (I know the movie's been out forever, but I'm trying to avoid major spoilers here <g>). If I was ranking the movie, I'd give it a B+ overall.
