That's why it's different.
I don't like ANY of Rory nor Lorelei's relationships!
I liked Max/Lorelai but he was too good for her. Even liked Christopher/Lorelai.
Rory/Tristan I liked but the show never went there except for that kiss she hated.
I do like Jess and Luke on their own, but I don't like them in a relationship with their respective Gilmores.
Jess grew up the most. I also prefer Luke away from Lorelai
I don't like Dean, hate Logan, don't like Max, don't like Chris...
I actually liked Christopher/Lorelai but they shouldn't be together either. I wanted him to stay with Sherry.
That being said the show didn't really age well despite how entertaining I found it.
Emily/Richard were the best couple and the side characters were better than Lorelai/Rory who really were terrible people tbh.
