that was at the entrance to the now long defunct Euclid Beach amusement park was moved today...about 150 feet. The amusement park closed a little over a year after I was born, so of course I have no memories of it, but my folks went on a couple dates there and took my brother and sister. The park had its dark side but it was also a beloved icon that brought many people joy, and some of its memorabilia lives on at other locations. The Comet (roller coaster) is still at Six Flags Great Escape in Queensbury, NY and the carousel, once sold to Palace Playland in Maine, was eventually returned to Cleveland and can still be ridden at the Western Reserve Historical Society. Some of the kiddie rides went to a park in Streetsboro, Shady Lake (which closed in 1982...for years, I thought I remembered going to Euclid Beach Park but I now suspect I went as a child to Shady Lake a couple times--in addition to the bigger Geauga Lake in Aurora--and may be remembering that as going to Euclid Beach). And a couple guys lovingly restored a car from the rocket ship ride and a car from a different roller coaster and made them, well, not exactly street legal but legal enough for businesses or individuals to rent them and have them driven around NE Ohio. I rented the Euclid Beach roller coaster car for my 50th birthday party...and because I'm me, of course it broke down on its third lap around the block <g>.

Anyways, my reason for mentioning this is my nephew (Bro's son) went down to witness the arch relocation, which was happening just a few miles from his home. He texted me to say he was interviewed by one of the local news stations...I had to work both shifts today and didn't see the noon or evening news, and that station's website doesn't have the story up yet. However, a different local station--WKYC--was down there filming and caught my nephew in the background [link] . He's the guy in the gray shirt, to the left of the guy being interviewed from :21-:25, and is shown front and center from the :47-:49 mark.
