listening because the protagonist is a person with a disability.
So...I do enjoy the story despite everything, and all the various intrigues, but OMG the writing is atrocious. LOL. HORRID. Like, Violet (said protagonist) has one of two reactions, maybe 3 to everything. Characters are suddenly introduced and then gone.
And the love scenes are absolute cringe. I just sit there like OK OK whatever, get ON with it. NEXT! Not hot even though her bf sounds dreamy, physically at least. Too many tropes to imagine. I even read off tame versions of them to my son and we crack up. So very horrible.
The first time there is a love scene that clearly wasn't written by a romance writer who cannot write is about a third of the way through the 2nd book. I just got past that section, and appreciated it for being far more subtle and actually introducing a bit of complexity.
And despite all my complaints, I am on the second book.
It's good for a solid summer read, if you're into dreck and the most obvious tropes ever. Plus DRAGONS!
Like I couldn't guess from page 10 some of the things that came out later. It's THAT obvious.
And yet...I'll listen to Onyx Storm as well. Sad, really!
I really hope though that they didn't market this to teens because that would be gross.
